Privacy Policy

LANDTHATROLE ("we", "us", "our") operates a job board for the United States and Canada at landthatrole.com. We are based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and, where applicable, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Information You Provide Directly

• Account registration: Email address, name, password (hashed — we never store plaintext passwords)
• Profile & preferences: Job title preferences, work location, salary expectations, skills
• Resume & files: Documents you upload for use with our AI career tools
• Job alerts: Email address, job search keywords, location, and frequency preferences
• Insiders program: If you register as an Insider — your name, employer, role, and the introduction message you write
• Referral program: Referral code usage and your referral link activity
• Support communications: Messages you send to our support team
• Payment information: Processed and stored entirely by Stripe. We receive only a payment confirmation token and your billing country — we never see or store your full card number, CVC, or bank details

Information Collected Automatically

• Usage data: Pages visited, job listings viewed and clicked, search queries entered, filters applied, time spent on pages
• Application click-throughs: When you click "Apply" on a listing, we record which job you clicked on (not the outcome of your application)
• Device & browser data: Browser type, operating system, screen resolution, referrer URL
• IP address: Used to derive approximate country and city (not stored long-term)
• Cookies & local storage: See Section 6

Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect government-issued ID, social insurance/security numbers, or financial account details
• We do not collect sensitive personal data (race, ethnicity, religion, health) unless you voluntarily include it in an uploaded resume
• We do not know the outcome of any job application you submit through a third-party employer ATS

We use your personal information only for the following purposes:

• Providing the service: Job search, filters, saved jobs, application tracker, job alerts, salary data
• AI career tools: Processing resume content and job descriptions through AI models to generate Resume Checker, Cover Letter, and Interview Prep outputs (see Section 5)
• Job alert delivery: Matching your preferences to new listings and sending alert emails via Resend
• Payment processing: Billing Pro memberships via Stripe
• Referral & Insiders programs: Crediting referral rewards, facilitating introductions between job seekers and Insiders
• Platform analytics: Understanding how the platform is used, identifying bugs, and improving features (via PostHog)
• Security & fraud prevention: Detecting abuse, bot activity, and unauthorized access
• Legal compliance: Meeting obligations under Canadian federal and provincial law
• Support: Responding to your enquiries and resolving disputes

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising. We do not share your resume or profile with employers — you control where you apply.

LANDTHATROLE aggregates job listings from publicly accessible employer career portals and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). The listing content — job title, description, company name, location, salary — is information employers have chosen to make publicly available.

We do not collect, solicit, or store personal data from employers' candidate databases. If a job listing inadvertently contains personal information (e.g., a named internal contact), please notify us at privacy@landthatrole.com and we will remove it promptly.

When you use our AI-powered career tools (Resume Checker, Cover Letter Generator, Interview Prep), we send the content you provide — including your uploaded resume — to a third-party AI provider (currently Anthropic) to generate the tool output.

Important details:

• Resume content is transmitted to Anthropic's servers in the United States for processing (see Section 9 on international transfers)
• Anthropic's API use is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy and their data processing agreement with us. Under our agreement, Anthropic does not use inputs to train their models
• We store the AI-generated output temporarily to display it to you. We do not store your full resume text beyond your active session unless you have uploaded it to your account
• You should not upload files containing sensitive third-party personal data (e.g., other people's information)

Types of Cookies We Use

• Essential cookies: Required for login sessions, authentication tokens (via Supabase), and core platform functionality. Cannot be disabled without breaking the service
• Preference cookies: Remember your settings such as saved searches, city preferences, and filter selections
• Analytics cookies: We use PostHog to collect anonymized usage analytics. PostHog captures page views, feature interactions, and session data. You can opt out of analytics tracking through your account settings or by using a browser extension that blocks PostHog

We do not use advertising cookies or allow ad networks to place cookies on our site. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar advertising trackers.

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in.

Do Not Track

We honour Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals for analytics cookies. When DNT is enabled, PostHog analytics collection is disabled for your session.

We share personal data only with the following trusted processors, under written agreements that prohibit them from using your data for their own purposes:

• Supabase — Database and authentication. Hosts our PostgreSQL database containing account data, saved jobs, job alerts, and application tracker entries. Data stored in US/EU regions. Privacy Policy
• Stripe — Payment processing. Receives payment method details and billing information. Privacy Policy
• Resend — Transactional and job alert email delivery. Receives your email address and the content of emails we send you. Privacy Policy
• Anthropic — AI processing for career tools. Receives resume content and prompts you submit to AI tools. Processed in the United States. Privacy Policy
• Cloudflare — Infrastructure and edge delivery. Our application runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare processes request metadata (IP address, headers) at its global edge nodes. Privacy Policy
• PostHog — Product analytics. Receives usage events and anonymized session data. Privacy Policy

Other Disclosures

• Legal requirements: We may disclose personal information if required by law, court order, or government request under Canadian or applicable US law
• Safety: To protect the safety of our users or the public where we believe disclosure is necessary
• Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, personal data may be transferred to the acquiring entity with equivalent privacy protections. We will notify you before such a transfer takes effect

If you register as an Insider, your name, employer, role, and public profile are visible to job seekers who browse the Insiders directory. Your personal email address is not shared — contact requests are routed through our platform.

Job seekers who send you a request share their name and a message with you through the platform. We facilitate the introduction but are not responsible for communications that occur outside the platform.

You may remove your Insider listing at any time from your account settings, after which your profile will no longer be visible to job seekers.

LANDTHATROLE is based in Canada. Some of our third-party processors (Anthropic, Stripe, PostHog, Supabase) operate servers in the United States or other countries outside Canada.

When we transfer personal data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place through:

• Data processing agreements with each processor incorporating standard contractual clauses
• Using processors that adhere to internationally recognized privacy frameworks

By using LANDTHATROLE, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to, processed, and stored in the United States and other countries, which may have different privacy laws than your country of residence.

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services to you. Specific retention periods:

• Account data: Retained until you delete your account. Deletion completed within 30 days of request
• Uploaded resumes & files: Retained until you delete them from your account, or when your account is deleted
• Job alert preferences: Retained until you unsubscribe or delete your account
• AI tool session data: Processed in-session; not retained beyond the session unless you save output explicitly
• Payment records: Retained for 7 years as required by Canadian tax and corporate law
• Analytics data: Anonymized and aggregated after 24 months
• Security logs: Retained for up to 12 months for fraud and abuse investigation

For Canadian Residents (PIPEDA / PIPA)

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
• Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent for non-essential data processing (e.g., analytics, marketing emails) at any time
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data
• Complaint: File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta

For California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

• Right to Know: Request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell
• Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions
• Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell personal information, so this right is not applicable
• Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights

To exercise any rights, email privacy@landthatrole.com with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. We respond within 30 days (45 days for complex requests with notice).

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• TLS/HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
• Encrypted storage at rest via Supabase (AES-256)
• Hashed passwords — plaintext passwords are never stored
• Row-level security (RLS) on our database — users can only access their own data
• Regular security reviews and dependency auditing
• Minimal data access controls — staff access to production data is limited and logged

No system is 100% secure. If you suspect your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@landthatrole.com. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by PIPEDA's breach notification rules.

LANDTHATROLE is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 16, contact us at privacy@landthatrole.com and we will delete it promptly.

We comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). We send two types of emails:

• Transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, payment receipts, security alerts): Sent as part of your use of the service. You cannot opt out of these while your account is active
• Commercial / marketing emails (job alerts, product updates, feature announcements): Sent only with your express or implied consent. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any such email or by updating your notification preferences in your account settings

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
